With a history spanning more than six decades, the Delta Awards are among the most prestigious in the sector in Spain and recognise products that stand out for their formal and functional quality, their innovation, their sustainability and their contribution to contemporary material culture.
The Delta Awards are presented in three categories:
- Delta Awards — aimed at professionals and companies, these recognise industrial design products that make a significant contribution to improving people’s lives and the environment.
- Delta Medals — established in 1976, these recognise the best academic projects by industrial design students, having established themselves as a key platform for emerging talent.
- Delta Culture — established in 2016, these awards recognise initiatives that promote design culture, whether through research, outreach, criticism or projects that broaden society’s understanding of design.
In this edition, out of the 203 projects selected in the initial phase, the jury has awarded:
- 11 Delta Gold and 17 Delta Silver
- 2 Delta Cultura Gold and 2 Delta Cultura Silver
- 1 Delta Gold Medal and 2 Delta Silver Medals
- 3 Opinion Awards
- 3 Delta Lifetime Achievement Awards, as an honorary recognition of institutions and organisations that have played a key role in design culture
Recognition for Basque projects and members of EIDE
At the 2026 Delta Awards, Basque design once again had a prominent part, with several projects winning awards and being shortlisted in various categories. Among them, several EIDE members stood out, having won awards or been shortlisted in the preliminary round.
In the Mobility category, the Delta Silver went to the Orbea Rallon RS, a project developed by Orbea. In the Materials and Building Elements category, the Delta Bronze was awarded to the Redoit project, designed by Taqta for KENDU. In the Interior Fit-out category, another Delta Bronze went to Vega & Alter Vega, developed by Niessen.
In the academic category, the Delta Silver Medal went to ‘X-plorer: Fauna and Flora Observation System’, a project by Aaron Gonzalo Gutiérrez carried out at IED Kunsthal Bilbao, an EIDE partner education centre, under the supervision of Lucas Abajo. This recognition highlights the quality of the emerging talent being nurtured in the region’s design schools.
This year’s edition also introduced the Delta Lifetime Achievement Awards 2026, which the ADI-FAD board of directors awarded to the City of Eibar and the Arms Industry Museum, in recognition of their extraordinary industrial legacy and the museum’s work in preserving, studying and promoting the culture of arms manufacturing, a fundamental part of the heritage of Basque design and industry.
The preliminary selection phase also saw a notable presence of studios and companies linked to EIDE. Among the selected projects is the Box Sealing Machine, designed by bigD Diseño e Innovación for Tecnimusa. Also selected was the ‘Speedster’ piece, designed by Jose Ángel Vivanco Martín for Tokyostory. Similarly, the ‘Tam’ project, designed by Nahtrang for Ondarreta, alongside ‘Gorka 30th’ and ‘Hika’, both developed by Pensi Design Studio for Akaba. Added to these is ‘Inclass Oswell’, designed by Nacar Design for Inclass. Rounding off the list are ‘Mibu’, by Nadia Arratibel Galardi for Ondarreta, and ‘Habea’, designed by Muka Design Lab for Ferroluce.
An outstanding year for Basque design
The presence of Basque companies, studios and schools at the 2026 Delta Awards confirms the strength of the design ecosystem in the Basque Country and Navarre, as well as the ability of our professionals and young designers to compete in one of the sector’s most demanding competitions.
At EIDE, we particularly celebrate the accolades received by our members and by the schools that form part of the region’s design education community. These results reinforce the importance of continuing to promote excellence, innovation and the international reach of Basque design.
